1. How quick is your response time?
If you call on a weekday I can come to your location occasionally later the same day if it's an emergency (time and a half emergency rate) or next day or two.
2. How long does an average job take?
This of course depends on what needs to be done on your computer. Usually the average time will be about 1 hour long. Very bad viral/spyware issues usually are 1 to 1.5 hours and Windows re-installations and data recovery projects are 1.5 to 2 hours. If there are massive amounts of personal files (pictures, music etc.) to backup before cleaning out a computer this may affect the time as well.
3. Do you work evenings and weekends?
To better support home clients who are at work during business hours and office clients who want to minimize downtime during open hours I will certainly be able to work evenings! I also work Saturdays during the day and evening. Sundays are reserved for emergencies only.
4. What if I need a part replaced or a RAM upgrade? Do you carry stock?
I have an extensive stock of RAM with me all the time as this is the most common upgrade to increase performance in older computers. I carry a set of inventory needed to replace parts such as a variety of fans, power supplies, optical drives, cabling, and hard drives and if needed I can shop for and purchase parts locally in a timely matter for you.
5. Do you offer tutoring?
Yes! I am more than happy to provide tutoring sessions. This includes basics on how to navigate Windows, copy files, organize photos, use your printer, burn DVDs or whatever you request. I am extremely patient so do not be concerned about your skill level!
6. What if my computer is not worth repairing?
Unfortunately it happens sometimes that I arrive at the conclusion that your system is not economically viable for repair. This means that I can repair it if you absolutely want me to but the costs will be far above what the computer is worth and it makes obvious sense to invest that money towards a new one. Please note that if the hard drive on your system is still intact I can usually quite easily move your personal files (pictures, documents, music etc.) from the failed system to the new computer when you receive it!
7. If I’m looking to buy a computer can you help me with this?
Sure! I help people with this all the time! Please click on “Purchasing Help” for more extensive details and recommendations.
8. Do you ever leave a job with the problem not fixed?
My problem resolution success is extremely high—very rarely will it be unresolved. Here are the only reasons that I will leave a problem unresolved:
a. Your computer isn’t worth the high costs of repairing it and a new one is recommended.
b. A rare, hard-to-find or not locally available part needs to be special-ordered to make the repair and then another appointment is necessary when it comes in.
c. You can’t or won’t pay me for the time needed to resolve the issue.
9. Are your rates higher on holidays?
Holidays are usually billed at time and a half. I do take holidays/time-off and then I'm physically not available but I usually still allow voicemail and have some access to email to schedule appointments for when I get back. Never be afraid to call or email me anytime to book an appointmen! 250.421.4044 or dave@superdaveconsulting.ca
10. Do you offer a discounted seniors or student rate?
For the unique service, experience, and skills I provide my rates are already the most competitive in Cranbrook.
11. Why aren't there different rates for home and business service?
This is something I have recently updated in my rating system. Over the years I've been finding out and eventually realizing that a lot of my skills that I apply to business clients are identical to the skills that I apply to my home clients. Both types of clients recieve the same years of experience and expertise and attention. I do not have home solutions to give to my home clients, I have business-class high-level solutions that I give to my home clients. Everyone is treated the same and the same expertise is applied to all.
12. When is payment due?
For home clients payment is due upon receipt of your invoice which I prepare and print for you right in your home. For first time or infrequent smaller businesses I prefer immediate payment as well. For businesses with ongoing service maintenance agreements and regular service work a couple weeks to 30 days is acceptable...although, of course, I always apreciate speedy payments :) I accept checks or cash and to help keep my rates competitive I do not have a debit machine.
13. Do you charge a cancellation fee for an appointment I cancelled?
No, not if you are in Cranbrook. But please call me ASAP and before I come to your location—this saves me valuable time and gas and also opens up time slots for other clients. If you are outside of Cranbrook and I arrive at your location and you cancel then I must charge travelling time to cover my expenses.
14. Do work on MACs?
No sorry, I run a PC support business. Please contact Apple Support or the store where you bought your MAC from.
